Markerstudy gives local schoolchildren insight into insurance and business

Future First insight Day, a group of young people are watching a presentation.

Markerstudy Group held its inaugural Insight Day for education charity Future First in November, welcoming students from Jack Hunt school to its Peterborough office for a day of career-focused activities.

The day began with a total of 21 business students aged 14-15 receiving an introduction to Markerstudy and the insurance industry. Students then split into groups for a careers carousel offering them deeper insights into specific parts of the business, including ESG, IT, Marketing & Communications, Apprenticeships and Customer Service.

The afternoon gave students a chance to brush up their job application skills before a series of practical tasks and mock interviews tested what they had learned during the day, as well as their general business knowledge.

A valuable workplace experience

Commenting on the Insight Day’s significance, Davy Cheema, alumni programme manager at Future First, said: "You can't be what you can't see, which is why it's so important for young people to have access to a wide range of experiences within the workplace and with relatable role models in the form of employees. The Insight Day provided students with advice and practical skills on CV writing and showed them the wide variety of roles within the insurance industry. These opportunities wouldn't be possible without Markerstudy's support and dedication to boosting social mobility."

Fasiha Ashiq, careers lead and citizenship teacher at Jack Hunt School, thanked Markerstudy for “giving our students a chance to experience a real workplace and discuss all the relevant skills needed to be successful in work. I would love to make this an annual trip for our Year 10 students!”

Feedback revealed that 93% of students rated the Insight Day an eight out of ten or higher, 92% felt more familiar with the insurance industry and 80% had a better understanding of the world of work. Students described the day as “amazing”, “very interesting” and “fun and really informative”. Following the event, a parent contacted Markerstudy to organise work experience for her son due to the day’s positive impact on his motivation.

“We always aim to ‘put the fun into insurance’ and support our local communities, so it’s great to see that Jack Hunt’s students enjoyed the Insight Day while gaining skills and knowledge that will support them as they begin their careers.”Lizzie Smith-ForemanDirector of Group Marketing, Markerstudy
